In our time of increasing environmental awareness, renewable or environmentally friendly energy sources are becoming increasingly popular. From their humble beginning at Bell Laboratories in 1954, often confined to usage in toys due their huge costs and inefficiency, solar panels have taken massive technological advances. Over decades of usage in space programs, agriculture and water treatment, solar panels have emerged as an amazingly environmentally friendly, and now amazingly accessible source of energy. At Sutton Building Company, we pride ourselves on fitting the most cost effective and environmentally friendly forms of electricity and power in your home or business. Solar panels are no longer confined to research lab or space programs. We hope this page will help explain to you the staggering benefits of solar panel installation to your household or business; the financial savings they yield, their accessibility and their benefit to our environment.
Solar Energy Explained
Solar energy systems, also known as Solar Photovoltaics (PV) use photovoltaic cells to capture the sun’s energy. Contrary to common perception, these cells do not require direct sunlight to work, so usage is not confined to clear, sunny days. These cells then convert the sunlight they capture into electricity for your home or business. The PV cells are made of a series of layers of semi-conducting materials, which in nearly all cells, is crystalline silicon or solar-grade silicon. When PV cells capture the sun’s energy, the light creates an electric field across the layers. These groups of cells are grouped together into modules or panel, to then be placed on rooftops. The power created by a PV cell is measured in kilowatts peak (kWp). On average, a 2.9kWp solar panel system can generate up to 2,500 kilowatt hours of electricity a year-that’s a staggering 75% of the typical household’s electricity needs. Furthermore, this one system can save over a tonne of carbon dioxide every year; that’s a tonne less harmful gases being released into the atmosphere. We will explain the Feed-In scheme further down, but if your system is eligible, this could potentially generate savings and income of nearly £1,200 per year as you get paid for any electricity you generate but don’t use.
Benefits
Solar Panels massively benefit both you and the environment. As previously mentioned, the savings just one system could yield are staggering. In short this is because, once you have paid the initial installation costs, you use the sun as your energy source. In some cases, a small amount of power may still be required ‘from the grid’, but in comparison to what you are paying while fully reliant on the gird, it is minimal. A little known fact is that due to everyone’s environmental awareness, and the impressive savings they yield, solar panels add value to your property, potentially gaining you even more capital. Unlike some ‘money saving’ alternatives you are presented with, solar panels give you immediate savings. From the first bill after installation you will see a huge reduction in your costs. Unlike some other ‘green energy solutions’, solar energy is not just sustainable but a renewable source of energy; in short it will never run out. The panels themselves are also very low maintenance. Once fitted and brought to their maximum efficiency they require little more attention.
With our employees boasting over 20 years experience in the building and electrical trade, Sutton Building Company have the experience and knowledge to service both the structural and electrical needs of any property. What does installation involve?
At Sutton Building Company we ensure that you receive the best personal service from initial enquiries to project completion. The project starts with the initial contact where we ensure we understand your requirements and offer you the best advice to ensure we fit the best systems to fit your needs. Off the back of initial conversations, we provide you with a no-obligation design proposal and quote. We ensure our quotes are as comprehensive as possible, as to avoid any ‘hidden charges’ or nasty surprises, including all costs and material involved. A range of site and structural surveys, as well as notifying local authorities follows this, should any planning permission be required. Once we have carried out all our surveys and checks, and you are completely happy with our quote, we will arrange a mutually suitable start date for the project. The actual installation itself involves, fixing mounting brackets to the roof, fixing rails onto the mounting brackets, fixing the solar panels onto the rails and finally installing a wiring to your properties electrical equipment. Our installation teams combine years of experience in both the electrical and construction trades to perfectly fit and connect your solar panels.
Who can benefit from solar panels?
The simple answer is everyone. Solar Panels are becoming increasingly accessible to businesses and homes alike. If you have a roof, you can have a solar panel. Homeowners are becoming increasingly aware of the savings they can yield by having solar panels fitted on their roofs. With a wide range of local and national government incentives encouraging renewable energy sources, the financial benefits can go beyond the immediate energy bill savings. Furthermore, solar panels increase the value of a house and thus providing you another potential form of capital gain. Many home have utilised the savings of ‘energy saving’ or other ‘green’ lighting solutions, so why not go one step further and power your sustainable light bulbs with renewable energy. For commercial environments, solar panels can yield even bigger saving than in the domestic setting. For business premises with larger roof areas, the saving can be significant. The Energy Savings Trust states that typical 2.7kwp systems can earn up to £1,030 a year, but with larger systems come larger savings. Solar Panels will significantly reduce your businesses operating costs, and in the process increase of your business and protect it from rising oil and fossil fuel costs. Another huge benefit that is often overlooked is the positive impact solar panels can have on public relations. In this age of heightened environmental awareness, any business that is proactive in reducing its impact on the environment will find favour in the eyes of the public. At Sutton Building Company we service all work involving domestic solar panel installation, commercial solar panel installation, business solar panel installation, school solar panel installation, factory solar panel installation, agricultural solar panel installation and many more settings besides.
